AboutRichard Oleschuk

Biography:

Richard Oleschuk obtained his Hon. B.Sc. (1994) and Ph.D. (1998) from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Manitoba. In 1998, he was awarded a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Post Doctoral Fellowship, which he tenured in D. J. Harrison’s laboratory at the University of Alberta. Richard arrived at Queen’s University in July 2000 where he established a state of the art analytical laboratory. In 2011, Richard was promoted to full professor.

Selected Awards:

• Chancellor's Research Award (2006)

• Fred Beamish Award (2005)

• Premier's Research Excellence Award (2002)

The research conducted in The Oleschuk Group focuses on the development of miniaturized analytical systems with emphasis on specialized materials and mass spectrometry. Some key words about his research topics are as follows: Porous Polymer Monolithic Materials, Templated Polymer Materials, Nanoelectrospray Ionization-Mass Spectrometry, Multiple Electrospray Emitters, Polymeric Microfluidic Devices-Soft Lithography and Hot Embossing, Microfluidic Separation, Fluorous Interaction Chromatography, Digital Microfluidics, and Computational Fluid Dynamics. Richard’s work at Queen’s has led to peer 60+ peer reviewed publications (three articles currently under review), and 8 patents (applied for and granted). Three of his publications have been selected for covers The Analyst, Journal of Materials Chemistry, 2012 and Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 2008. As of February 2012 Richard has an H index of 23 and has been receiving an average of 180 citations/ year since 2003. Some of his papers have been cited more than 200 times and his total citation count now exceeds 2000. Richard’s research program has shown great commercialization potential and generated significant industrial interest. Through collaboration and commercialization activities Richard’s group has worked with a number of industrial and governmental partners (e.g.Eli Lilly, AB SCIEX, IDEX, Advanced Integrated Microsystems, PARTEQ Innovations, Micralyne, Kiriama, INO Quebec, Silicycle, CMC Microsystems, Advanced Technology Fuels, Ionics Mass Spectrometry Group, Lab-to-Clinic etc.)
